United States Power Squadron®, formed in 1914, is the largest fraternal boating organization in the United States. We have over 450 squadrons totaling more than 38,000 members across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Japan. We are a non-political, non-governmental organization, though we do work closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxillary, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NOS and the Department of Natural Resources of most States.
The Lake Candlewood Power Squadron is a unit of the United States Power Squadrons®.
The Lake Candlewood Power Squadron offers Safe Boating Classes to the public. These classes have been tailored to be completed in one 8 hour day. These classes teach navigational aids, the rules of the road, how to anchor, different kinds of anchors, basic piloting, knots, docking, and basic seamanship. The instruction is free, although there is a nominal fee for the Student Manual and charting materials. In addition, the Squadron offers personalized service which can range from simple trailering techniques to more comprehensive “how do I use my new boat” and “can you show me the lake”. These sessions are designed to introduce the new boater to their own boat and the potential boater to the concept of boating. Taught by our cadre of certified instructors, the helping hand offered by these sessions often relaxes and invites the newer boater into the world of boating.
Our members enjoy:
The Lake Candlewood Power Squadron also offers its members the use of Squadron Park. This is undoubtedly the best kept secret on the lake. This private, for members only sanctuary is some 1500 feet of lake frontage, boasting dockage for 12 boats, picnic tables, BBQ grills, a covered pavilion, beach and swim area. Our members have worked very hard over the years to develop and maintain this little piece of paradise. Accessible only by boat, this is no easy task however the return on your investment of time and energy is second to none. As the colder months are hung up with the winter coats, so are the land locked gatherings of the Squadron. Yes, that’s right, the Squadron hosts many a picnic, rendezvous, boating class and even our summer monthly meetings at Squadron Park.
