A variety of courses are offered by the Lake Candlewood Power Squadron, both to the public and to our members.
America's Boating Course® is also available to the public, and is a self-study course with CD-ROM and workbook. More information is available on the ABC Course here .
Many other courses are available to members only. It's easy to join the Lake Candlewood Sail and Power Squadron, and then you too can take advantage of these advance grade courses.

First Advanced Grade Course - Seamanship:
Cost: $70
Five Advanced Grade Courses are offered by USPS. They are designed to be taken in sequence because each builds on skills taught in the previous course.
Seamanship covers basic deck seamanship, marlinspike (knots and ropes), anchoring and rafting, basic boat care and maintenance, and nautical and USPS customs and etiquette.

Second Advanced Grade Course - Piloting:
Cost: $90.00 Piloting is the first and most basic navigation course, covering chart reading, course plotting, and basic coastal or inland navigation, including basic GPS usage. This course goes into more detail than the charting information covered in the public courses. |

Cost: $95.00 Advanced Piloting covers more advanced coastal navigation techniques, navigation in tides and currents, and more advanced GPS usage. |
